Good snow on the way

It has been a long time since sledders have had good snow in The County this early…..but it is here and there is more on the way.   As I post this we are looking at up to a foot or more of good, wet snow to fall between later this evening and Friday…..that is the good news.

The bad news is the strong winds will limit projects from getting out early but most projects should be out by late Friday night and will probably be out all day Saturday.  The forecast discussion is calling for the highest totals to be around the Katahdin region and probably west of Rt 11 in The County.  But all of the region has been out and based up the last mix and this storm should set us up for some ideal conditions by the new year.

Sledders are advised that the last storm with heavy wet snow did take down lots of trees and this storm with the forecasted high winds will likely compound that problem so use caution and give projects time to clean up.

Also lakes are going to be problematic for a while.  They were freezing up but the last heavy snow settled the ice and brought the slush up……cold temps this week have helped but this snow pack will once again provide insulation and slow ice formation.

Everyone is also watching another low pressure system that will begin to intensify off the mid Atlantic coast by Saturday afternoon and likely head north……so stay tuned!
