Well the stage is set for some great events and although Mother Nature seems to need to get her priorities straight we really came out no worse for the wear.   Sledders will find a good base in most of the system however there is water on trails especially in low lying areas and there is ice so approach your riding with safety because you never know where the ice and water will show up.   And remember this isn’t for the feint of heart……know where you are going and use some common sense.

The system will hold more snow going west and north of Caribou but again there will be water and ice.   NOAA  is predicting some flurries but it will take about 10-12 inches of snow to get the system back to its normal perfection.   Kudos go to all the projects that have done a great job prior to the rain in packing and grooming trails…..they saved the system for both sledders and the business community.

This  weekend if you feel the need for speed you should head to Portage Lake where the Portage Lakers Snowmobile Club will host their annual Radar Runs……the word is there is 20″ of clear blue ice on the lake and the track is the best it has been in a while.   And if you don’t snowmobile just head over…..fun event, lots of talking and that front porch connection and a big boost for the club that has encumbered some pretty big expense in the last year.

Of course next weekend is the grand daddy of ice fishing derbies……The Long Lake Fishing Derby…….seven lakes and $12, 500 in prizes…….and an awesome event.

This is a fun for all ages.    Even if you don’t fish you want to just stop by Long Lake and be part of the event.   There are some awesome fishing shacks and of course many of the shack owners have their own culinary delights that they are willing to share…….

So embrace winter in The County…….come on up and ski, snowshoe, snowmobile or fish…….The County truly is the way life should be !
